Consignment Services Frequently Asked Questions
What items do you accept on consignment?
I love to help find homes for your unwanted treasures, but I want the transaction to be profitable for both of us. If you have an item or items you would like to consign, I will do limited research to get an idea of the eBay value, which typically is less than published values.
What happens next?
The consignment services I offer are varied. If I feel that the transaction would be profitable, I may offer to consign the item(s) individually or as a lot, or I may make an offer to purchase the item(s). I may suggest an avenue other than eBay, such as Craigslist, for larger, heavier items that would be more suited for local pickup.
Is there a way for me to find out historical sales figures for my item?
If you want to get an idea of what your item has sold for on eBay, visit www.terapeak.com. Research is free for up to a 14-day history, and this may help you decide whether or not you want to pursue selling the item(s).
Can I set a minimum sales price?
Certainly. If I feel the minimum is a reasonable value, the auction will begin at that level. If I feel it should start lower, I will set a reserve amount at your requested price. If the item received bids but does not reach the reserve amount, you will have the option of selling it at the bid price or not.
So what is your consignment fee?
I charge a flat consignment fee ranging from 30%-50% of the selling price. I do all listing work including research, cleaning, and photography, and pay listing and selling fees as well as all shipping costs. Many eBay consignment services charge a lower commission (25-35%), but then expect you to also cover all the listing & selling fees, which run 15-20% of the selling price.
Consignment Fee Schedule
Selling Price: $10-$25: 50%
$25-$50: 45%
$50-$75: 40%
$75-$100: 35%
$100+: 30%
Are there any upfront costs?
Each item I take on consignment requires a $5 deposit which is refunded when the item sells. Your item will be listed as a standard auction for a period of 7 days. If it does not sell, it will be moved into my store for a maximum of 12 months. At any point that you wish to end the consignment or at the end of the 12 months, your $5 deposit will be refunded less all listing fees that have been incurred. Please note that at my discretion I may decided to return the item to auction, list in a different format, etc. However, unless agreed to prior, you never will be responsible for more than $5 in listing fees.
